I keep a small private studio in New York, and a few spots are open.
Trumpet
What I care about most is how healthy a player is. Lessons begin with the fundamentals, breath, posture and an efficient embouchure, because that is where most problems of sound, range and endurance start. The work is to find the effort that is in the wrong place and remove it; what is built after that lasts.
I have taught students from their first lesson to conservatory auditions, served as a trumpet mentor at Juilliard Pre-College, and given masterclasses in China, Japan and the United States. Lessons are given in English or Chinese.
Ear training
Since 2023 I have taught ear training at The Juilliard School, as a Teaching Fellow and Department Assistant, from Pre-College through the Master of Music. Good ears make everything else easier: what a player can hear clearly, they can play and correct on their own. Ear training can be taken on its own or alongside trumpet lessons.
A first lesson
Lessons are an hour, in person in New York or Allentown, or over Zoom. The first lesson is at a reduced rate, so that we can both see whether it is a fit before anything is decided. For rates, send me a note.
